Silent Movies & Civil War Band

  • The Newtown Theatre 120 North State Street Newtown, PA 18940 United States (map)

The historic Newtown Theatre will participate in Newtown Celebrates America 250, a free community wide celebration commemorating America's 250th anniversary.

From 12:30 to 2:00 PM, the theatre will screen silent movies on its big screen and serve as a cooling center during those hours. The public is welcome to “drop in and drop out” anytime during those hours to catch a classic silent movie.

From 3:00 to 4:00 PM, the theatre will host a free concert by the Fort Delaware Cornet Band, the Delaware Valley's premier Civil War Brass Band.

Dressed in period reproduction Union uniforms and playing original and replica Civil War-era instruments, the band performs music popular during that time, including patriotic tunes, quicksteps, and other pieces common in the mid-19th century.
