Plan Your Visit to the Newtown Theatre

Getting Here

Address for GPS

120 N State St, Newtown, PA 18940

Look for the historic brick building with a neon “Newtown Theatre” sign in the front window. We do not have a typical theater marquee.

When to Arrive

  • Doors typically open 60 minutes before live events and 30 minutes before movies. Event pages on our website will always list the exact door time.

  • Most events are general admission seating with live events offering VIP seating. Arriving earlier gives you more seat choices.

  • For sold out shows, we strongly recommend arriving close to door time, especially if you want specific seats or you’re attending with a large group and wish to sit together. We do allow patrons to save seats.

  • If you arrive after a show starts, you will still be admitted. However, seating at sold-out shows becomes more limited as show time approaches. Larger groups may need to split up and specific seating requests may not be possible.

Parking

The theatre does not have its own dedicated parking lot. The building predates the invention of cars!

Street parking and municipal lots are free throughout Newtown Borough and are usually available within about three blocks of the theatre. Locations of the lots are:

  1. Between Washington Ave. and Centre Ave.

  2. Next to Newtown Borough Hall (23 N. State St.)

If a major borough event is happening at the same time as a performance, parking can take longer. We will typically email ticketholders in advance if that is expected.

Drop Off at the Theatre

Guests with mobility concerns may be dropped off directly at the curb in front of the theatre, where we have a dedicated space available for this. After drop-off, the driver should park elsewhere in town.

Entry

  • If you purchased tickets online, go straight to the front door and our staff will scan your ticket.

  • If you did not purchase tickets online and there are still tickets left for a show, you can buy tickets at the door. However, advance purchase is strongly recommended for Newtown Theatre events.

  • Lines sometimes form depending on the show, but entry moves quickly.

Tickets & Seating

Seating

  • For theatre-run events including movies, concerts, and comedy, seating is general admission, first come first served. You do not select specific seats when purchasing tickets online.

  • Saving a few seats for friends is fine. Large groups should arrive together and early to sit together, especially for sold-out shows.

  • Some productions presented by outside groups use assigned seating. Their ticketing system will show seat selection during purchase.

VIP Seating

  • For many concerts and live events, the first five rows are reserved for VIP ticketholders. Those seats are clearly marked, and our staff will help direct you.

  • VIP tickets are available on each event webpage. If you don’t see a VIP option, it is not available.

Children Attending Events

Children require a ticket for all events. Most Newtown Theatre events are open to all ages. If an event is restricted to guests 21 and older, that will be noted on the event page.

GETTING Your Tickets

  • When you purchase tickets online, you will receive them via email as a PDF with a QR code. The ticket email also allows you to add the tickets to your phone’s wallet.

  • If you cannot find your tickets in your inbox, first try to retrieve them here. If that doesn’t work, please contact us and we can resend them to you.

Refunds and Exchanges

  • Unless you are an active Newtown Theatre member, all ticket sales are final, and refunds are not offered, regardless of the reason for the request. Please double check an event’s date and time before purchasing.

  • Active theatre members may request a refund or exchange up to 48 hours before an event. Refunds are never issued after a performance.

Transferring Tickets

You may give your tickets to someone else or purchase them as a gift for someone else. The name on your ID does not have to match the name on the ticket. Tickets are scanned only to ensure validity for the event.

Sold-Out Shows

We do not keep a waitlist. For most sold-out events, no-show tickets are opened 10 minutes before the event begins. For these no-show tickets, availability is not guaranteed and groups likely will not be able to sit together.

Discounts

For some movies, students and seniors 65+ can purchase a discounted ticket. Military, first responder, and group discounts are not offered.

Intermission

Some events include an intermission; movies typically do not. The bar/concession stand remains open during intermission.

Accessibility

If you or a guest in your group has a disability or mobility concerns, please contact us one week before you visit so we can make arrangements for you.

Entering the Building

  • There are steps leading to the front porch. A staff-operated wheelchair lift is available from the sidewalk to the porch.

  • The first floor has sloped seating.

  • There are no steps required to reach seats or the accessible restroom on the first floor.

Accessible Seating

  • A handful of wheelchair spaces are available. Options include the front row or the space at the back of the auditorium. All of these spaces provide a great view of the stage due to our small size. Please contact us a week before you visit before you visit so we can discuss your options.

  • For wheelchair users who can transfer to a seat, we have a limited number of seats with hinged side armrests that allow a patron to easily transfer. We do not keep these seats empty/reserved unless we have advance notice. Please contact us a week before you visit so we can reserve one of these seats for you.

  • If you are not a wheelchair user but have mobility issues or want to be close to the restroom and we encourage to arrive as soon as the doors open for your event. That will give you the pick of all the seats in the auditorium. The door opening time is posted on the web page for each event.

Scooters, Walkers, and Other Mobility Aids

  • For guests using scooters or walkers, a theatre staff member can store the item until intermission or the end of the show.

  • Due to space constraints, these items cannot be kept in the aisles.

Accessible Restrooms

  • A single occupancy all-gender accessible restroom is located on the main floor.

  • Additional restrooms are located downstairs.

Hearing Assistance Devices

Assisted listening devices for movies are available at the concession stand.

Service Animals

  • Qualified service animals that assist people with disabilities are allowed in the theatre and must be leashed. A service animal is defined as a dog that performs some of the functions and tasks that the individual with a disability cannot perform.

  • Animals cannot block the aisles.

  • Companion dogs or animals that are used only to provide comfort or emotional support are not allowed in the theatre.

Concessions

Our concession stand in the lobby and bar inside the auditorium offer snacks and drinks:

  • Popcorn

  • Candy

  • Soda and bottled water

  • Beer, wine, and canned cocktails

  • Cookies from the Newtown Hardware House

Outside food or drinks may not be brought into the Newtown Theatre. Purchased food and drinks may be brought into the auditorium.

While we don't always have the bar officially open for family events, you can always purchase an alcoholic beverage from the concession stand in the lobby.

Payment Methods

At the concession stand and bar, we accept cash, credit cards, and Apple Pay/Google Pay.

Comfort & Etiquette

Sightlines

The Newtown Theatre is an intimate venue. Even the farthest seat is still close to the stage! No seats have a blocked view of the stage.

Temperature

We work to keep the theatre comfortable, but the temperature can vary in older buildings. During the winter and spring we recommend dressing in layers or bringing a light sweater in case temperatures fluctuate.

Phones

Phones must be silenced before all events.

Photography and Recording

  • Casual seated photography is generally fine.

  • Video recording and obstructive equipment are not permitted.

Dancing

  • Dancing is welcome at concerts in the open area near the stage.

  • We ask all guests to be respectful of others during performances.

Bags and Coats

We do not have a coat room or coat check. Large bags are typically allowed but may be inspected if necessary.
