The screening of this Thanksgiving-themed indie comedy will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s writer and director, Karl Ryan Erikson.

Filmed entirely in New Jersey, “The Family Recipe” is a funny and heartfelt ensemble comedy about family, tradition, and the chaos that erupts when several generations gather under one roof for Thanksgiving.

“I set out to make the kind of warm, character-driven comedy audiences enjoyed in the 1980s and 1990s—something tweens, parents, and grandparents could genuinely watch and enjoy together,” says Erikson.

“The Newtown Theatre holds a special place in my filmmaking journey,” he continues. “My World War II short film, ‘Addle Strife,’ screened here in 2017. Returning now with my first feature film is a meaningful, full-circle moment for me.”

“The Family Recipe” has been steadily building an audience through festivals and special screenings. It won Best Feature Film at the Long Island International Film Expo and has drawn crowds at various screenings in the Northeast region.
