Accessibility

The Newtown Theatre is dedicated to providing a comfortable and enjoyable theatre experience for patrons with disabilities. Since most of our events are general admission seating, we ask that patrons in wheelchairs or who need assistance contact us at least two days prior to an event they will be attending. This will help us prepare for your arrival and ensure that you can best be accommodated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the theatre have a wheelchair lift?
Yes, our wheelchair lift is built into our porch in the front of the building. It can easily be accessed by a sidewalk and is self-operated.

Do you have an accessible restroom?
Yes, we have a wheelchair accessible restroom on the first floor of the auditorium.

Are there any steps I need to climb?
Thanks to recent renovations, there are no steps to climb to access the first floor of our auditorium. There are steps to the balcony, however.

Do you have an elevator?
We do not have an elevator.

Do you have transfer seats?
Yes, we have four seats with hinged side armrests that allow a patron to easily transfer from a wheelchair into the seat.

Where can I store my wheelchair/scooter/walker?
A theatre staff member can take wheelchairs/scooters/walkers and store them until intermission or until the end of the show. Due to space constraints, these items cannot be kept in the aisles.

Do you have accessible parking?
Unfortunately, we have no parking lot or accessible parking spots. Parking is either on the street or in a Newtown municipal lot. Patrons who cannot walk long distances can be dropped off in front of the theatre. You will want to be traveling southbound on State Street to access this drop-off area.

Do you accommodate the hearing impaired?
We currently do not have assisted listening devices.

What is your service animal policy?
Service animals trained to perform a task are allowed in the Newtown Theatre. Animals cannot block the aisles.
