Movie Club: Baby It's You (Free for Members!)

The Movie Club pick for July is Baby It’s You (1983), written and directed by John Sayles and with songs by Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen.

Each Movie Club film is introduced by Joe Amodei, President/CEO of Virgil Films & Entertainment. After the movie, Amodei and will discuss the film with participation from the audience and special guests Shawn Poole and Caroline Madden.

MEET OUR GUEST PRESENTERS

Shawn Poole was a regular contributing writer for Backstreets Magazine, the premier magazine for fans of Bruce Springsteen, as well as its accompanying website, Backstreets.com, during its final two decades. After Backstreets ceased its regular magazine and website operations in 2023, Shawn launched a new website, LettersToYou.net, with the tagline, "The Springsteen fan's companion... for this part of the ride," for which he currently serves as Editor/Publisher. Shawn also was Chief Researcher for Nick Mead's 2019 documentary film Clarence Clemons: Who Do I Think I Am?  which showed at the Newtown tHEATRE. He is a retired educator/administrator for the Philadelphia public-schools system and still lives in the Philly area.

Caroline Madden is a film critic for SlashFilm and Film Studies professor at Lycoming College and Ocean County College. She is the author of Springsteen as Soundtrack: The Sound of the Boss in Film and Television (McFarland & Company) and Virginity on Screen: The First Time in American Teen Films (McFarland & Company). Her booklet essay, “They’re Pulling Out of Here to Win: How Bruce Springsteen Steers John Sayles’ Coming-of-Age Journey,” appears on the Fun City Editions Blu-ray release of Baby It’s You.   • You can present a hard copy of your tickets or the QR code on your phone.

  • All ticket sales are final. Please be aware of what event you are buying tickets for. Refunds or ticket exchanges will not be offered. If you can't attend, you're welcome to give your tickets to someone else.

After trying both of these things, please contact us if you still don’t have your tickets. Do not contact Ticketbud – we’ll be able to help you much faster.

EVENT DETAILS

  • Doors open at 7 PM and the event starts at 7:30 PM.

  • Seating is first come, first served. We recommend arriving early if you would like to secure your favorite seats.

  • Beer, wine and canned cocktails will be available for purchase at the theatre before and during the event. 

  • Free parking is available along North State Street, in the municipal lot between Washington and Centre Avenue, and in the municipal lot next to Newtown Borough Hall (23 North State Street).

  • We have a wheelchair lift on our front porch and an accessible restroom on the first floor. There are no steps to climb to access the first floor of the auditorium. There are steps to the balcony.
