On Friday, February 22, 1952, the Newtown Theatre screened The Day the Earth Stood Still.

We know that thanks to the recent discovery of four Newtown Theatre posters from the 1950s.

As a tribute to our historic past, you’re invited to a screening of The Day the Earth Stood Still on Friday, February 22, 2019…exactly 67 years after the Newtown Theatre first screened it!

Thanks to support from Newtown attorney Alice Hart Hughes, admission for the film is 48 cents, roughly what it would have cost in 1952.

Come dressed in your best 1950s get-up, treat yourself to a space-themed cocktail before the film, and join us in celebrating the long history of the Newtown Theatre!

Four theatre posters from the 1950s, including one that lists The Day the Earth Stood Still, will be displayed in the theatre prior to the film.
